I aim to provide a space for exploration and gentle guidance where appropriate. I value holding a compassionate, non-judgmental space to facilitate growth and insight.
Exploration can lead to significant insights into your internal processes and a greater understanding of your practice, your relationship with yourself and with your clients.
I believe good supervision can help you to explore and make sense of what may be going on for you (your internal responses to your client), for your client, and what may be going on between you (the therapeutic relationship).
It can help identify feelings, patterns, projections, transference/counter-transference. It can highlight blind-spots and areas for future CPD, and it can help you recognise your own successes and strengths. It can be a supportive space for reflection and processing.
Mirroring the value I place on the therapeutic relationship in my therapy practice, I feel the supervisory relationship is an essential factor in effective supervision.
Gaie Houston describes clinical supervision as having three main aspects: Plumbing (educative element), Policing (monitoring of boundaries and ethical practice), and Poetry (space for exploration).
I feel the “Poetry” is where the magic happens!
My supervisory style is relational and collaborative. As an integrative therapist and supervisor, I draw from a range of approaches and models including: Carl Rogers’ Person Centred Therapy approach, Hawkins & Shohet’s Seven Eyed Model for Supervision, and the Internal Family Systems (IFS) models for therapy and supervision.
